Fujiya & Miyagi über Can

zur deutschen Übersetzung >>>

I first heard EGE BAMYASI when I was round my friend Scott’s house in Stevenage. At that time it was still quite hard to get hold of records by Can, Neu!, Harmonia etc. Luckily Scott’s father had a copy and we used to get drunk and listen to it when his parents weren’t in. We listened to a lot of Otis Redding and Sly & The Family Stone too, and in a strange way songs like „I’m So Green“ and „Vitamin C“ fitted quite well with those records. In parts, it’s like a german funk record. It’s probably the easiest to dance to of all their releases. If you compare it to music that was released at the same time it’s hard to believe that it was recorded in the same period. It still sounds to these ears more relevant and exciting than anything else recorded since. For about a year or so I used to listen to this and future days every night as I went to sleep. I put them on either side of a cassette and managed to time it so I was still awake to turn it over for future days. I still think it is the best time to listen to music.I chose this record above other favourites such as ROCK BOTTOM by Robert Wyatt or Serge Gainsbourg’s MELODY NELSON as it’s the only record I can play in my head without having to hear it. It is perfect.
