Carl Barât hat eine neue Band gegründet. The Jackals, so der auf einem gleichnamigen Westernfilm aus dem Jahr 1967 basierende Name der Band, rekrutieren sich aus Musikern, die Carl Barât Anfang des Jahres via Facebook suchte. Und eben jene The Jackals kündigen nun ihr Debütalbum für Herbst 2014 sowie erste Live-Gigs an.

Auf Facebook schrieb Carl Barât nun:

„Dearest friends, I wanted to thank those of you for your support through the process of me finding a new band using social media and even bigger thanks to those of you who auditioned. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the entire process was overwhelmed by the calibre of musicians who applied; I really couldn’t have asked for more. The work I’ve been doing behind the scenes to get together the new band has finally come to fruition and I’m thrilled to introduce you to my new band, The Jackals. I will be posting more updates throughout this week, including the date of live show with the band. Love, Carl x“

The Jackals bestehen neben Carl Barât aus Gitarrist Billy Tessio Guitar, Bassist Adam Claxton und Schlagzeuger Jay Bone. Ihr erste eigene Show wollen sie im Londoner XOYO am 15. Mai spielen. Die Aufnahmen für ihr Debüt seien außerdem schon so gut wie fertig. Barâts neue Band will das Album in den kommenden zwei Monaten fertigstellen, während Carl Barât selbst in anderer Mission unterwegs ist: Im französischen Film „For This Is My Body“ spielt er die Hauptrolle.

2010 veröffentlichte Carl Barât – mithilfe von unter anderem Johnny Marr und Andy Burrows – sein Solodebüt, 2006 und 2008 erschienen zwei Alben seiner danach aufgelösten Band Dirty Pretty Things. An der Seite von Pete Doherty war Barât der zweite Kopf hinter The Libertines, die es Anfang der nuller Jahre immerhin auf zwei Alben und anschließenden Indie-Kultstatus brachten.

Der Ex-Libertine, Sänger und Gitarrist schrieb die Stellen für seine nun gefundene neue Band Mitte Januar via Facebook aus, auf Twitter verriet Carl Barât zwei Wochen später, dass eine Shortlist bereits stehe.
