The Libertines halten die Fans zwar fleißig mit Fotos auf sozialen Netzwerken auf dem Laufenden, doch wie das kommende, dritte Album der Band klingt, vermag bisher nur die Band selbst zu sagen.

Pete Doherty und Carl Barât verrieten dem britischen NME in einem Interview neue Details über ihr erstes Album seit zehn Jahren. Doherty ist sich zwar sicher, dass die „Fans es lieben werden“, gab jedoch auch an, dass es nur einen alten Song auf der neuen Platte geben wird – eine Neufassung von „You’re My Waterloo“, da die bisherigen Versionen nicht zur Zufriedenheit der Band geraten waren, wie Carl Barât anmerkt.

Die kommende Platte, die offenbar elf Tracks haben wird, ist eine „moderne“ Version der Libertines. „Wir wollen ja nicht klingen als wären wir im Jahr 2004“, sagt Schlagzeuger Gary Powell.

„It’s not us repeating ourselves, that’s for sure,“ sagt Carl Barât weiter. „We’ve definitely moved on. For a while, half my mind was thinking that the album would need an ‚I Get Along‘ and a ‚Horrorshow‘ – that fast guitar sound – but we were not really in that rhythm. There are a few nods to that for sure, but if we’re not in that rhythm and it’s not part of our lives, then there’s no point in forcing it. I think what came out was just what was right. We didn’t try hard to do anything, but with The Libertines there’s quite a spectrum of what we’ve always done. There are shades to us, and I wanted to make sure that everything I love about the band was represented“, erläutert Carl Barât.

Für einen kleinen Schock sorgt Bassist John Hassall, als er sagt: „We’ve gone progressive“, schließlich aber hinzufügt: „No, don’t get scared. It’s still The Libertines, but it would be weird if we came back and just did exactly the same thing.“

The Libertines werden als Headliner bei den britischen Festivals T In The Park, Leeds und Reading auftreten und im September auch bei der deutschen Ausgabe des Lollapalooza Festivals in Berlin spielen. Eventuell lassen sie bei diesen Auftritten bereits neue Songs hören.
